could you talk a little bit about your background? I grew up in Harrisburg, Penn, and I was blessed with a great deal of height-I'm about 6 feet 6 inches-and I received a basketball scholarship to a small school in Virginia-Roanoke College. Had no idea what I wanted to study or what I wanted to do with my life except play basketball-that was my primary focus, and, I majored in business. As an individual, but more importantly as a team, we were very successful. In 1972, Roanoke won the National College Division Championship. In those days there were two leagues, the ABA and the NBA, and when I got out of school, I was drafted into both leagues. So, I was living the dream. That was my goal when I wanted to play. I got drafted by the Jazz, but I didn't sign a contract. I went to the summer league, and unfortunately I didn't make the cut, but then I did sign with the Virginia Squires in the ABA, and for the first time in my life, I started to wear something other than Converse All Stars. I ventured into this new Three Stripes world of adidas. And from there it didn't last very long. The career can't be listed in years, it can be listed in months. At the time, in the 70s, Converse really didn't care about your ability to sell. They were more concerned about your basketball background. They had a preference for hiring ex-basketball players, and I was lucky enough to get a job virtually right as soon as I got cut. I had a sales job in upstate New York, of all places, living in Syracuse. I didn't even know where it was on a map and started selling Converse products, which primarily was the Converse All Star.News for Thursday 18 February, 2010 Recent News
